Library plans more family fun
|
The Dominion PostJanuary 7, 2004
Each new year brings the hopes, dreams and promises of the future.
The Morgantown Public Library hopes to provide the citizens of Morgantown with the best library services available ranging from the latest best sellers; free Internet access; low-cost video and DVD rental; safe study environment; up-to-date research tools; free adult, children and family programming and more.
The Morgantown Public Library shares the dream of providing educational, fun and free family programs with the Shelley A. Marshall Foundation. The foundation has provided the library with the means to bring monthly quality programs to the children of Morgantown. Those events have included Book-A-Trip, Harvest Moon Barn Dance, storytellers and Madeline and Curious George storyhour celebrations.
The Shelley A. Marshall Foundation's short-term goal is to bring a smile to someone's face. If you could have seen the participants grinning from ear to ear as they left the programs during the past year, you could say those goals were reached and the ambitious long-term goal of changing the world one person at a time is attainable.
The Morgantown Public Library and the Shelley A. Marshall Foundation promise to continue providing the community with the quality family programs for 2004. The library is working to fine tune the schedule of all monthly programs. Some programs to look forward to are Mardi Gras Celebration, West Virginia storytellers, Dr. Seuss 100th birthday celebration, American Girl Tea Party and visits from the National Aviary.
This month's Shelley A. Marshall Foundation program will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 24 with a visit from multicultural storyteller Andy Fraenkel. Fraenkel's "Stories from Down the Block and Around the World" will entertain the whole family. More details will be found in future columns.
