Pentagon Hero's Family Launches New Chari-tea Website
Washington D.C. - The husband of Pentagon victim Shelley A. Marshall will launch a foundation and website in memory of his wife at 7:30 pm on Saturday, February 9, 2002, at Broadway Gallery, 1219 King Street, Alexandria, VA.

On September 15 a grief counselor told Donn Marshall four little words that gave significance to his changed life: "Give your sorrow meaning." The Shelley A. Marshall Foundation was set in motion when he invested his wife's entire retirement savings in an irrevocable trust to finance activities mirroring Shelley's interests in tea and reading to her children. The website, www.shelleysfoundation.org, will give a 21st century face to the otherwise simple mission of the Shelley A. Marshall Foundation: supporting children's story hours at public libraries, endowing creative writing contests at colleges and high schools, and hosting quarterly tea parties at nursing homes.

A key component of these tea parties will be local high school student participation. "Not only will we bring the seniors a nice tea party, but we'll bring generations together over a cup of tea," says Marshall.

"The outpouring of peoples' generosity since the eleventh has been astounding and so personal," Marshall said. In response to a web posting about the tea parties, one donor sent a teacup she had received from a friend who recently died of cancer; another donor is honoring his recently deceased mother by donating one of her antique teacups. Marshall plans to relay these stories to those who use the special teacups. "I think these donors have hit upon a wonderful way of honoring someone's memory."

The first tea party in the DC area will be on Saturday, March 17, 2002 at the Sleepy Hollow Manor Nursing Home, Annandale, VA.
